Poor care can age even premium resin fast. Here’s how to protect it from UV, heat, and cleaning damage.

Resin is durable, but it is not immune. Bad display habits can age even high-end work in a few months. The fix is simple: control UV, control heat, and clean gently.
Sunlight and UV (the silent damage)
Direct sunlight is the number one long-term risk for resin and paint.
What UV can do
- Yellowing over time
- Fading or shifting colors on painted pieces
- Surface brittleness on certain resins and clear coats
Display rules that work
- No direct sun. If you see a sunbeam touching the piece, move it.
- Use LEDs for display lighting. LEDs typically emit far less UV than many older light sources.
- If the piece must sit near a window, add a sheer curtain or UV-filter film and keep the statue out of the beam path.
Heat (the fast damage)
Heat is a short-term killer because it can push resin toward deformation.
Heat risk zones
- On top of radiators
- Next to heaters or heat vents
- Directly behind a gaming PC exhaust path
- On a sunny windowsill where glass turns the area into a warm pocket
What heat can do
- Slight warping that ruins alignment
- Softening on thin details (blades, fingers, cape edges)
- Stress on glued joints and magnet seats
Practical rule
Keep resin in stable room temperature. Avoid “warm spots” that stay warm for hours every day.
Cleaning (safe routine)
Most damage during cleaning comes from two things: harsh chemicals and pressure.
Dry cleaning (default)
- Use a soft brush (makeup brush is ideal) to lift dust.
- Follow with a microfiber cloth for flat surfaces.
- Use light pressure around thin details.
Wet cleaning (only if needed)
- Lukewarm water + a tiny drop of mild soap
- Dampen cloth or cotton swab, don’t soak the whole piece
- Dry quickly with a clean microfiber cloth; let it air-dry fully after
What not to use
- Alcohol, acetone, thinner, aggressive cleaners
- Abrasive pads or paper towels on matte/satin finishes
- “Degreasers” that can haze varnish and soften paint layers
Handling (prevents 90% of accidents)
- Lift from the base, not arms or weapons.
- If your piece has modular parts, separate them before long moves.
Quick checklist
- No sunbeam touch
- LED lighting preferred
- No radiators, vents, heaters, hot windowsills
- Soft brush first, mild soap only when necessary
- No alcohol or solvents
